Vinifera Wines is a family owned vineyard planted 9 years ago only 500 metres from the first recognised Chardonnay vines in Australia, themselves in an old 1860s vineyard.
Vitis Vinifera is the proper botanic name for the grape species that makes wine, thus if Vitis Vinifera means grapevine, then Vinifera Wines means wine in it's best sense.
Mudgee is 280 km NW from Sydney, on the western edge of the Great Dividing Range & is 450 metres high. A long generally dry growing season with cool nights & lots of sunlight allows full ripeness most years. Grapes have been grown here since the 1850s & with better & better viticultural practices the resulting rich, full flavoured wines now have a wide following.
With a climate like northern Spain, Vinifera Wines have embraced unique Spanish grape varieties -- Tempranillo, Garnacha & Graciano to create rich savoury reds. You will hear much more about these different wines, in the years to come.
Semillon has won lots of awards both as a dry crisp white style and also as a luscious sweet dessert wine.
Spicy & exotic cuisines blend with Riesling in it's honeyed, citrus cloak.
Cabernet Sauvignon & Chardonnay continue to show up as complex, generous styles to complete the portfolio.
